 discuss rhetoric

5.II.2003 :::: 18.01

further thoughts on joe millionaire.
this week he was feeling sorry for himself, complaining to one of his producers about the huge pressure he feels, living the 50-million-dollar lie in front of these women he wants to like him. "i've never lied to get a woman into bed with me," he said, "& here i am living the biggest lie of my life.... it's just so fucking ironic..."

& as a reflex i leaned forward to say, "you're wrong! it's not ironic! it's interesting (maybe) but not ironic!" & then i realized, well, yeah, sure, it is ironic.

i also tend to yell at people, including people on the television, who misuse the word "tragic."

but now it is not time to discuss rhetoric, now it is time to make mushroom stew.

PS, last night on the local news, colleen-the-anchor described leona helmsley as a "real estate magnet." we both sat up in bed accusingly.
