 letters to the stars

20.III.2003 :::: 12.43

np: stephin merritt, this little ukelele, eban & charley sdtrk

my first thoughts on waking this morning were of those irregular spanish nouns which end in "a" but are masculine anyway: problema, poema, mapa, sistema, a lot of others i could remember better when i was half-awake. then bean, rolling over in sleep, punched me between the shoulder blades.

as promised we had our double-feature of talk to her & the quiet american, with an intermission at the caf. i want to write a letter to michael caine. it would say

dear michael caine,
thank you for pushing for the release of your movie, because it is very good, but mostly because it is kind of creepy for miramax et al to supress it for fear of being labelled seditious. i must be blunt with you, however, & confess that i don't think you should have been nominated for best actor. dennis quaid (far from heaven), javier cmara (talk to her), & even richard fucking gere (chicago) rose to higher challenges in their roles than you did in yours. also kind of creepy was watching do thi hai yen kiss the sprawl of your face. sorry. good movie, though. i liked the music. keep up the good fight.
lovericka.

& if i wrote a letter to pedro almodvar it would say

pedro carissimo,
your movies are my best friends! talk faster!
