np: Bright Eyes, Bowl of Oranges, Lifted, or the Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground

a woman came in today for her abortion & when i went to ask her some questions about her chart, she teared up & asked if we could talk. she explained: she doesn't want an abortion. she explained: her boyfriend has threatened her, she must have an abortion or else. she explained: she doesn't know what to do, she has always been pro-choice, she thinks now is the right time for her to be pregnant, she is afraid of him, he is in the waiting room, she is three hours away from home, she doesn't know, she doesn't know.

i sat in that room with her a long time, with the door closed. i told her she could stay in the clinic for a few hours. she wanted to stay a few hours, then leave with him, say she'd had it done, break up with him, go about getting a restraining order.

we talked about how you never know what you might do. how you can say, your whole life, i would never, or i would definitely, but you never know.

i came home & my dad had e-mailed me (i'm going to stop doing this soon, i really have to):

Hey- just a quick note to say I hope your Roe-v-Wade day went okay.
We will call you at home tonight, just to talk.
I was thinking about you a lot today.
Love-
Dad
