last night i was all burnt-up & manic & i stood in the kitchen in my blue wifebeater & cut-offs & sandals & turned on the radio & cooked up the summer squash that jim + marilyn had sent up, via my parents, all the way from their garden in kentucky. & in my kitchen the color of a winter squash i was careeningly happy, burnt-up & urged-on by hormones which seemed to be telling me, "get busy get busy get busy," & by my brain, which seemed to be misinterpreting the hormones: so that i was busy cooking, instead of busy the other kind of busy.
