The Bad. Mischka & I went to lunch at no.1 chinese where the air conditioning was broken. given the heat we decided to get our food to go, walked it back the blocks to his office, opened it up, ever ravenous, to discover that Mr Restaurant had given us pork-fried rice with our tofu. I feel bad about throwing food away but the thought of putting any of it, even the non-ricey bits, into my mouth made me feel even sicker & sweatier than the heat.
The Lovely. On the bus across from me, in the back where I like to sit, there was a very small girl toddler with her mother. The mother looked like Liz Phair & the girl had beautiful beautiful eyes. When the mother emptied her purse onto the seat, the child picked up the sunglasses, unfolded them, & held them out at arms' length to investigate. She put them around her neck like a necklace, lenses to the side, earpieces wrapped around her throat. Liz Phair picked up the glasses & put them onto her daughter's face: she leaned back back back, stared at the ceiling through the purple lenses, looked absolutely lost in the wonders she must have seen.
The Delicious. Soon soon I will make it out of this apartment with its clutch-clutch heat to escape to a motel in the suburbs where bean & I are retreating for her birthday. Note: She does not know we are retreating. She thinks we are buying groceries. Lucky her! Surprise!
There is a bottle of merlot in the green suitcase, nestled in with our J. Otto nightgowns, because bean is a rich red kind of classy lady, even if I am more the crisp white kind of easy girl, following you around eagerly if you hold out a glass of chardonnay just beyond my reach.
