Bad guy in a window. Decoration Day.

28.V.2001 :::: 18.02

some things i found in liner notes this afternoon:

1. I love songs about horses, railroads, land, judgment day, family, hard times, whiskey, courtship, marriage, adultery, separation, murder, war, prison, rambling, damnation, home, salvation, death, pride, humor, piety, rebellion, patriotism, larceny, determination, tragedy, rowdiness, heartbreak and love. And Mother. And God.
Johnny Cash

2. We sang together every morning, going through The People's Song Book from cover to cover. I developed the curious notion that the Nazis were overthrown by music.
Leonard Cohen

something i found on my desk today:

1. Djeme decirle, a riesgo de parecer ridculo, que el revolucionario verdadero est guiado por grandes sentimientos de amor.
Che Guevara

1.5. Let me say, at the risk of sounding absurd, that the true revolutionary is guided by great feelings of love.

there is the smell of walnuts coming out of the oven & into the rest of the house.

since my last update i have made:
  1. bath salts
  2. a slow-lullabye tape
  3. these salts + tape went into a box along with chocolate, for julie
  4. a new sourdough starter
  5. an amethyst+silver necklace for alice my take-no-shit boss
  6. curry for dinner one night
  7. a two-storeyed amethyst necklace, as an experiment
  8. chocolate chip cookies (deliciously vegan, thank you alton)
  9. a cold-weather-spring kind of tape
  10. a blue+silver collar for reckoning, who tried to lick it off & then looked at me perturbed (i am going to dismantle it)
  11. a necklace with letters that say EL CORAZON NARANJA with, you know, orange beads mostly
& now i am getting ready to make bread (hence the roasting walnuts) & some cookies to send my parents.

i am going to presume that this mad rush of creativity is hormonal, although it may also be related to my Crazy Sleep-Dep Kind Of Life these days. (why haven't i been sleeping? i haven't been working. maybe the sleep-dep & the creativity are both from the same, separate, cause.)

take the sheet pan out & stir the walnuts about with the spatula.

discover that i have, in fact, charred the walnuts. i'm terrific.

:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:

i'm delighted, on the other hand, to note that johnny cash (see above) & i seem to like the same kinds of songs. songs about the same things. except patriotism.

here is more johnny cash, from the liner notes to unchained:
Sometimes at night. When I hear the wind. I wish I was crazy again.

& here is what was going through my head when i drifted off to sleep last night, after a mad reading session of The Amber Spyglass:
& i've been making promises i know i'll never keep / one of these days i'm going to leave you in your sleep
Magnetic Fields

& here is what was going through my head when i woke up this morning:
i guess it all got out of hand / became a verbal killing spree / i'd shoot to wound / but when she spoke they'd all drop dead / though every headline in the country featured dorothy + me / we were too young + drunk to care / too much in love & too well-read
Flash Girls (by way of alan moore)

& this is what is in my ears right now:
why should you want any other / when you're a world without a world?
Elliot Smith

so me & elliot are going to go see what, if anything, can be done about the walnuts. probably i will have to give them to the trash.
