i have given up on the
genji because it was boring me out of my mind. i want more about people's handwriting & wardrobes, & less about their love affairs. i suppose i wouldn't mind reading about genji's love affairs if that meant i actually got to read about sex. but there isn't even any sex.
so now it is love in the time of cholera, in english because i can't read garca marquez in spanish, too many exotic plant names. even bean reads garca marquez with a dictionary at her side.
weird, good compliments from the past week:
1. today a mexican patient asked me where i was from, cul pas. this despite my mangly boca.
2. when i gave bean the project bag i had made for her birthday, & stocked with fancy-ass yarn & a new set of hooks, she said, "where did you find this?"
also, this is not a compliment, this is a weird milestone, but dr b____ wants to train me to do cervical swabs. holy cats! "it's just a long q-tip," he said.
but all of this doesn't matter, the only thing that matters now is that tonight we are going to the aiport to stand next to the lichtenstein & wait for ash. ash is coming to visit! ash who back in 1995 said to me, "ericka, have you met [bean]?" & i hadn't, so then i did.
