 books on the run

15.III.2003 :::: 15.18

np: tom waits, waltzing matilda

note to adoring fans: i don't know why, but i dislike being asked to explain to people what i am reading, in particular, especially when i suspect it will sound kind of stupid when i say, truthfully, "well, it's four books actually, & not much happens in them. but they're really good."

i realized yesterday when i was trying, failing, to take a nap, that if i ran away & could only take with me the books i could carry, i would probably take the riverside shakespeare, the new american bible, moby-dick, & the collected frank o'hara. realizing it like this makes me feel odd, but i can't tell exactly how. maybe i feel i should be more acanonical but i can't help it, i think these would be the most sustaining. maybe i'd take conjectures of a guilty bystander, too. my copy of moby-dick is a trade paperback reprint of the arion press printing, illustrated by barry moser.
